The Pre-Health Club hosted the UIW Feik School of Pharmacy in their monthly meeting on Zoom to educate club members on the flexibility of being a pharmacist on Oct. 19.
The guest speaker, Armando Prado Jr., MPA, manager of enrollment and alumni services for the UIW Feik School of Pharmacy, explained the paths a pharmacist could take after getting their degree. He also spoke about future predictions for pharmacists and how Feik is preparing students.
Prado said a pharmacist can choose to work closely with the community, be government advocates, give care to patients or work in pharmaceuticals.
“We think of pharmacists as the most accessible health care professionals,” Prado said.
Prado referred to the increase of pharmacists shifting to becoming people’s primary source of medical information.
The society is also preparing for an in-club election for Treasurer and Social Media/PR manager.
In an effort to help members, the society has presented volunteer opportunities with the Congressional District 23 and Yanawana Herbolarios, a San Antonio nonprofit. They also invited members to virtually attend panels that covered other careers in medicine like dentistry and physical therapy.
The club is also dedicated to helping members prepare for any medical tests that their future careers might need. They are currently organizing study groups for the MCAT, GRE, DAT, and other tests
