From getting involved in a cause to learning yoga poses, students at Texas A&M University-San Antonio can participate in upcoming club events and regular meetings to get involved on campus.
Yoga Mind

Nadia Padron, president of Yoga Mind, said the organization looks forward to teaching yoga to students of all ages and participating in campus events.
The club was founded in September 2019 to “spread positivity, awareness of yoga and life lessons,” said Padron, a psychology junior.
Padron said the weekly meetings begin with sitting in a circle and going over ‘breakthroughs,’ which are upcoming events or tasks to be completed.
The club also shares recent accomplishments of each member, ending the meetings with a yoga session that teach the dynamics and meaning of each pose.
“The word yoga comes from the word ‘unite’, or to yoke,” Padron said. “It’s bringing something together and learning about yourself; to receive good energy, advice, or let go of tension.”
The club has 21 members and encourages all students to visit a meeting. The club meets at 3 p.m. every Tuesday in Room 134 of the Madla Building.
“This is a sacred and safe space for people to open up or just to be there for others in need.”
Yoga Mind is fundraising at the Festival de Cascarones April 26 at Texas A&M University-San Antonio, where they will sell henna tattoos and essential oils.
The club also looks forward to visiting the Children’s Shelter to teach yoga to children. This is community service for those who attend; Yoga Mind members are still accepting new volunteers.
Padron said the club is especially proud of an event called “Moon Circle,” it was originally limited to women. The event provides tools such as meditation, breathing exercises, and spiritual activities for the group to explore. The club has not yet scheduled a date for the event.
“This is an event where there will be personal sharing that is confidential to the Moon Circle,” Padron said. “..this is not a therapy session. Moon circles will focus on goal setting, cleansing the body through breath and meditation, using the power of words as mantras, and the power of healing crystal.”

Cinema Club

The Cinema Club is hosting an Anti-Valentine’s Day Photobooth noon-2 pm, Feb. 14 in the CAB courtyard.
The photos are unlimited and free to take. After the event is over they will immediately be uploaded to the club’s Instagram @cinema_club_tamusa. There will be a variety of music and a cotton candy machine.
“Our members came up with an Anti-Valentine’s Day theme because we thought it was something fun and different,” Ruby Villarreal, president of the Cinema Club, said. “The photobooth is a good way to make memories and we have some photographers in the club.”
The event is a chance for the club to promote itself as an established club and bring in new potential members. The club has 57 members.
Founded in February 2019, the club is expecting to meet every Tuesday from noon-1 pm. Members are trying to do everything it takes to make their mark on campus.
Villarreal urges anyone with an interest in the arts or movie watching to join.
“It’s a beginners club so people shouldn’t be afraid,” she said. “We learn from each other.”
The club’s mission is for people to learn more about movies, become more open-minded and socialize among their peers.

The Coalition

The Coalition will host Valentine’s Day Karaoke from 4pm-7pm Feb. 14th at Esperanza Hall on the second floor.
This is the first time this event is being put on by the Coalition. The Valentine’s Day Karaoke is open for all Texas A&M San Antonio students to attend, Coalition President Di’Shanic Holt said.
“It is important to come to the karaoke event to be involved with your community and to get to know the Coalition and what we have to offer,” Holt said.
The Coalition was founded in 2012 for the LGBT community on campus, Holt said.
“Coalition provides a safe place for LGBT+,” said Holt.
The club has 209 members and is open to anyone.
“We ask if you do want to be a part of the Coalition that you are an active member by going to meetings and participating in events,” Holt said.
The Coalition does not have an official time and date for its next meeting.
No dues for this current semester are required for new members.

History Club

The History Club is looking for volunteers to judge local students at San Antonio Regional History Day.
The regional competition will start at 7:30a.m. March 21 in the Vista Room of the Central Academic Building.
Presentations will be made by local middle and high school students. This year’s topic will be “Breaking Barriers in History.”
All students of Texas A&M University-San Antonio are invited to judge. To volunteer, contact Dr. William S. Bush at william.bush@tamusa.edu
The History Club mostly engages on campus in book talks, panels, and conferences. The club was founded in 2009 and has 50 members.
Club president Sabrina Ospina said although she is a history major, History Club is for all students.
“We want our members to gain connections, to network with people with similar interests,” Ospina said.
The club will meet 2-3 p.m. March 5 in Room 305 of the Madla Building. They will meet there once a month.
