Sergio Medina
Editor in Chief
Sergio Medina is a journalism senior and editor in chief for The Mesquite at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. He transferred from San Antonio College in December 2021, where he was editor for The Ranger student publication for four years. Sergio’s interest in journalism comes from a love in storytelling consisting of movies, video games, TV series, books and comic books. Upon completing his bachelor’s degree, Sergio aims to join the journalism ranks servicing the San Antonio community.
Graham Hotard
Managing Editor
Graham Hotard is a communication junior at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. He transferred after receiving an associate degree from San Antonio College and is a full-time student. He is an avid fan of all things science fiction and fantasy. In his free time he loves to listen to audio books, play video games, watch football and spend time with his dog Luna. He plans to pursue a career in writing after graduating.
Raul Trey Lopez
Assistant Editor
Raul Trey Lopez is a communication senior at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. He is a first-generation college student. In his spare time, he likes listening to music. After graduation, he hopes to pursue a career in journalism while also maintaining his family flooring business.
Matthew Lopez
Sports Editor
Matthew Lopez is a junior at Texas A&M University-San Antonio majoring in communications. Matthew received his associate degree along with his high school diploma in 2018. In his downtime he likes to go to the gym, watch sports and write poetry. He hopes to have a career in journalism where he can report on anything and everything — as long as he gets to continue writing, that is enough for him.
Xochilt Garcia

Xochilt Garcia is a sophomore at Texas A&M University-San Antonio majoring in communications. In her downtime Xochilt enjoys reading anything she can get her hands on and listening to music in all forms. Xochilt hopes to become a full-time reporter, traveling and bringing light to the stories that matter to the community.
Ashley Khamtrashyan
Social Media Editor
Ashley Khamtrashyan is a communication junior who transferred from Northwest Vista College. She enjoys spending time with her family and traveling. Ashley is also part of the San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists. After graduation, she plans to pursue a career in journalism as a reporter.
Amber Esparza
Photo Editor
Amber Esparza is a junior Communications major at Texas A&M University - San Antonio. She transferred from the Alamo Colleges with Associate degrees in Radio-Television-Broadcasting and Journalism. Amber loves all things media. After earning her BA in Journalism, Amber hopes to continue on to grad school to pursue her MFA in Film.
Irma Saenz

I’m Irma Saenz and I am a communications major from Texas A&M University-San Antonio. Photojournalism, Television, Film, Social Media and News are just some of things I like to work on. I don’t have a preference, so dipping my toes where I can helps me gain experience.
