Finding campus events, student organizations and other activities at Texas A&M University-San Antonio is now made easier with CORQ, a new app the university is slowly rolling out that gives students mobile access to many of the features available through JagSync at their fingertips.
The university launched CORQ in August. Students can log into the app using their A&M-San Antonio credentials and browse campus events, organizations and involvement opportunities. The CORQ app can be downloaded for IOS and Android from the App Store and Google Play Store. From there students can select their university and gain access to the organizations and events happening on campus.
For students looking for an event or to just get involved with campus life, CORQ puts all the information in one place. Instead of searching online and logging into different platforms to find activities, students can open the app, browse upcoming events, select one they’re interested in and RSVP.
Criminal justice senior Sasha Perez says the app makes finding events easier because students can quickly find an activity and add it to their personal calendar on their phone.
“CORQ is basically a super easy way to find events without having to Google and log into everything to find events,” Perez said. “With the app, you can just hop on there, find your event, RSVP and have it sent to your calendar so you can get reminders of it.”
An event page includes information such as the time, location and description of the event, as well as information about the organization or people involved with the event.
Students can use that information to know who to contact if they have questions or if they want to learn more about the organization holding the event.
Perez also said she likes having the information organized on one event page instead of having to search for details in different places and different websites.
CORQ also includes an organization directory where students can search for campus organizations and find groups based on their interests. Whether it’s arts and entertainment or gaming there’s something for everyone. Students can filter through events using categories such as community events and commuter friendly themes, perks such as free food and drinks, and many other options for students to choose from when wanting to get involved. Students can save organizations to a personal list called “My Orgs” and use this list to keep up with their favorite organizations and learn more about them.
“You can save them to your own list called ‘My Orgs’ and access the organizations through there,” Perez said.
Juan Guardia, vice president of Student Affairs at A&M-San Antonio, said he previously used CORQ at another university and saw how students used the app to keep up with campus activities.
“I used CORQ on my last campus, and my students in my last campus absolutely loved it,” Guardia said.
Guardia said the app gives students a way to see what is happening on campus throughout the week without having to search for individual activities or specific organizations.
“You log into CORQ and say, ‘OK, let me see what’s going on this week on campus,’ and that is something that might be of interest for you,” Guardia said. “You can just add it to your calendar.”
Guardia said the app can also help students manage the number of opportunities available to them. Rather than trying to participate in everything happening on campus, students can choose events and organizations that interest them and become involved.
“We know that there’s a variety and a myriad of options that we can provide our students,” Guardia. “We also don’t want to inundate them, so this CORQ allows them to choose activities that they’re really interested in.”
CORQ also provides access to the Experience Transcript, which allows students to track campus involvement and request an official A&M-San Antonio Experience Transcript. The transcript gives students the ability to receive a copy and use it for new job opportunities and their resumes.
Although CORQ brings many JagSync features to students’ phones, it does not replace JagSync. JagSync remains the primary platform for student organizations officers and organizations, while CORQ provides students with a mobile way to explore campus life and stay connected.
For students looking to become more involved on campus, CORQ combines event discovery, RSVPs, calendar reminders, organization searches and involvement tracking in all one platform. Guardia said the goal is to make those opportunities easier for students to manage.
“So it kind of makes it easy and manageable for students,” Guardia said, “and it’s almost like a well-rounded app that provides those programs and services for them.”
