The office of student engagement and success will host its first meeting of the Boots to Books Muster program series 3 p.m. March 8 in Room 145 at Brooks City-Base Campus.
The hour-long meeting is dedicated to sharing perspectives on the transition from military life to student life. The emphasis is on transitional issues as well as academic and social concerns shared by student veterans, which comprise 10 percent of this University’s student population, according to an institutional catalog.
Topics include: being new to a new campus, networking with other vets and peer to peer transition.
“The goal is to create a community for our active and military veterans to be able to connect with one another,” said Kathleen Frank, counselor and disability support specialist.
Frank said the meetings will be held every Thursday in March, with the exception of Spring Break, and will be held once a month beginning in April.
“It’ll be an ongoing program that I’d love see go on throughout the year,” Frank said.
