The Animal Hearts organization at Texas A&M University-San Antonio will be hosting for the first time an online Christmas Costume Contest for pets from 6 p.m. Dec. 4 to midnight Dec. 10.
Anyone associated with Texas A&M University-San Antonio can participate, including staff, faculty and students.
Participants need to upload their pet’s photo on their Instagram and use the hashtag #christmascostumecontest and tag the ‘Animal Hearts’ Instagram.
Voting day will occur on Dec. 11, the winner will be posted on Instagram on Dec. 14.
“We’re going to post all of those pictures on our story on Dec.11, let the viewers vote and whoever wins gets a prize,” Ruiz said.
If the event turns out to be successful, they plan to host it again next year.
“This is our first time event; if it goes well we can look into doing it next year and after that,” Ruiz said.
The Animal Hearts Organization at A&M-San Antonio wanted to do something cheerful for students, faculty and staff since this year was dominated by COVID-19.
Because of the pandemic, there have been a lot of events that students have had to miss out on since the university hasn’t been able to do a lot of in-person events.
“We really just wanted to do something to kind of lift their spirits because the holidays are going to be kind of weird this year and not everybody is going to be able to see their families,” Ruiz said. “We wanted to give them something to look forward to.”
