Blanca Mora, a bilingual education junior and the president of the Catholic Student Association (CSA), says her organization has big plans this semester to improve outreach and student involvement.
“Our goal is to reach out to college students who are here on campus and make them feel that we’re in a community to help them grow in their relationship with Christ,” Mora said.
Texas A&M University-San Antonio welcomed the Catholic Student Association during Spring 2017. Since then, the organization has launched events and activities on and off campus.
CSA’s 30 active members hold mass every Sunday at the Vista Room in the Central Academic Building. CSA hosts a confession service at 6 p.m. and proceeds with mass at 7 p.m.
Off-campus activities include volunteering opportunities such as feeding the homeless at the Catholic Worker House and volunteering at Baptist Child and Family Services.
CSA’s next big event is for Ash Wednesday, Feb 14. Mass will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. and the distribution of ashes will be held from 2 to 2:30 p.m. in the Ceremony Room in Patriots’ Casa.
Although they have not yet posted any information on Jagsync, the student activities portal, Mora said the organization will host a women’s and men’s bible study. The women’s bible study will be held Mondays from 1 to 2 p.m. and 3 to 4 p.m. and on Tuesdays 11 a.m. to noon. The men’s bible study will be held on Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. and on Thursdays from 5 to 6 p.m.
For more information, CSA holds weekly meetings from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Mondays in Modular 101B.
