Last week, people across the state endured hardships such as losing access to power and water – many for days at time. Below are resources to help affected students and the community. Resources include water bottle distribution, food pantry pickup, emergency aid grants, student counseling services and federal assistance.
Water Bottle Distribution:
Texas A&M University-San Antonio is one of 13 citywide locations participating as a water bottle distribution site. Distribution will take place every day 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. until March 6 in Lot 3. People are allowed to pick up one case of water per household, per day – while supplies last. Delivery may also be available by calling 311, according to the City of San Antonio’s website.

General’s Store:
The General’s Store is extending its hours this week and will be offering food and a limited supply of $25 H-E-B gift cards. The extended hours will be from 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. every day through Feb. 26. Students interested in picking up food from the General’s Store will need to fill out this form to schedule a pickup.

Emergency Aid:
A&M-San Antonio students seeking financial assistance can apply for emergency aid.
Student Counseling Center:
A&M-San Antonio’s Student Counseling Center offers largely remote mental health support for students through phone or Webex appointments. The counseling services are covered through student fees.

Federal Disaster Assistance:
President Joe Biden issued a major disaster declaration Feb. 19 in 77 of 254 Texas counties. These counties include Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall and Wilson, according to a White House press release.
The disaster declaration includes federal funding to recover from the winter storm’s aftermath.
“Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster,” according to the press release.

Community Pipe Repair Fund
Mayor Ron Nirenberg said San Antonio residents will be able to apply for the SAWS’ Community Pipe Repair Fund to help pay for plumbing repairs from last week’s storm. Eligibility requirements for the CPR fund can be found here.

San Antonio Water System has five self-service sites open 24/7 until further notice, according to their website.
