The South San Antonio Chamber of Commerce is hosting a reception for outgoing president Cindy Taylor from 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m. today on the first floor lobby and courtyard of Main Campus Building.
“We’re just serving as the venue,” Marilu Reyna, executive director for university communications, said. “She was involved with our locating to the South Side,” she added of Taylor.
Douglas Carter, assistant vice president for university relations and a former chairman of the South San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, said Taylor worked with the late Senator Frank Madla who was instrumental in bringing the university to the South Side.
Carter added Taylor worked with Madla and his staff to coordinate meetings that generated interest in locating the university to this area.
“They worked together to raise awareness of the need for a university in this part of town,” Carter said.
The evening reception is to honor Taylor’s 21 years of service to the organization which serves to increase higher education opportunities, diverse housing, business opportunities and economic development in South Bexar County.
