The Mays Center will host a two-week Trivia Tuesday tournament 12:30-1 p.m. April 21 and April 28 on Webex.

“The winner with the highest score combined will be able to select their prize from a selection list of games, technology, books, etc.,” said Krystina Irvin, the center’s director of experiential learning.

She said the weekly event allows students to learn about on- and off-campus services, resources and opportunities for jobs, internships and volunteer work while they “have fun with history, pop culture and sports trivia.”

“We started our Trivia Tuesday Fall of 2018, so we are rounding out our second year,” Irvin said.

Irvin said the center has partnerships with on-campus and community organizations. One of its biggest events in the spring semester was with an organization called Students +Startups.

“It helps connect students to paid internship opportunities with startup companies in San Antonio,” Irvin said.

The center partnered with CITI through Webex for Trivia Tuesday April 14.

“We have two more weeks of trivia for sure…before final exams start,” Irvin said.

During the next two weeks they don’t have a theme or department to collaborate with.

“It’s kind of ironic; we did very well at having a partner I think pretty much every week this semester and then COVID-19 happened… the partnerships we had in place already, folks have been pretty good at continuing the event,” she said.

Since COVID-19, requests to partner up have decreased. Because of social distancing, all events are hosted virtually through Webex. Students can access the event link through JagSync.

“We also create a Kahoot trivia that goes along with it,” she said.

During most events, gift card prizes are distributed.

“Last week it was gas gift cards. This week CITI is providing the prize which I think will be CITI swag,” Irvin said in an interview April 14.

Events are still being promoted on JagSync they are hosted virtually. This gives students  easy access to a specific link when joining the event. They are also promoting the events on social media such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter @TAMUSAMAYS.

“As far as student experiences, we definitely have a group of die hard regulars that are very competitive,” she said. “It’s been great for us to see other students that come in based on who their partner is, or based on what the opportunity is that we are showcasing that particular day.” Irvin said.
