As the COVID-19 outbreak has forced Texas A&M University-San Antonio to operate online, the university is crediting students for services that will no longer be used throughout the semester.
Cynthia Teniente-Matson, A&M-San Antonio president, said the university is delivering refunds to students with parking permits, housing and dining plans.
Effective March 22, housing refunds are available to students who have moved out of the dorms. According to American Campus Communities, dorms at Esperanza Hall prices range from $534 to $855.20 per person, per installment, each semester.
“Some students have chosen to stay in the hall through the rest of the semester, and those students will not be receiving a refund,” Matson said.
According to Matson, 61 of the original 352 students living in the dorms have decided to remain through the rest of the semester.
Students who have moved out of the residence hall with dining plans will also be refunded. According to the university’s dine on campus website, meal plans are normally $1,250.
The university is crediting $20 to parking permit holders, according to an email sent from Parking and Transportation Services on March 28. Parking permit options range from $40 to $120.
“To help you with the unexpected impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the University is crediting your parking permit account by $20,” the university email said.
