Anyone remember an epic battle 180 years ago in San Antonio? Here’s your chance to live it with the Remember the Alamo weekend.
The Alamo will commemorate the 180th anniversary of the 13-day battle and siege for Texas independence. For 13 days the Alamo will celebrate with interactive living history, special events, and reenactments.
“This is the first time the ride has been reenacted,” said Alamo press secretary Brittany Eck.
The Alamo’s series of events includes Ride for Texas Independence, “The Alamo” Movie Night, An Evening with Heroes, 3rd Annual Crockett Fiddler’s Fest, and Dusk at the Alamo.
Opening remarks were given Feb. 24 to share the significance of the Alamo and its history.
“We gather here to remember what it costs to be a Texan, and we gather here to celebrate,” Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush said in a video promoting the event.
Press Secretary Brittany Eck said one of the celebrations more memorable and booked events is “An Evening with the Heroes.” This event captures the feeling of spending after-hours in the Alamo, prior to battle, offering the perfect opportunity to get a feel of life from the era; without modern luxury, guided only by candlelight.
Scott McMahon, director of the Presidio La Bahía will lead the Ride for Texas Independence. Reenacted by living historians, this ride signifies the route William B. Travis took on Feb 24, 1836, to deliver reinforcements to Texans.
