With only three years in existence, Maverick Music Festival is already growing comparatively to neighboring Austin’s South by Southwest and Austin City Limits.
The festival began in 2013 after Blayne Tucker, a previous band manager and attorney in the music business, saw the need for San Antonio to have a proper music festival showcasing premiere as well as developing international talent to keep its SA2020 vision.
Initially a one-day event, the festival has grown to host 40 musical acts over the course of two days in the heart of San Antonio.
This year more than 11,000 were said to witness the fusion of music genres such as local punk rock Xicana group, Fea to the socially conscious rap legends that make up Public Enemy and historically psychedelic rock band, The Flaming Lips.
The acts spread out over three stages at the Arneson River Theatre, Maverick Plaza, and Bier Garten and had vendors in between each stage selling food, beverages, art and artist merchandise.
