If you’ve been to The Cove and La Tuna, then hopefully you’ll soon land at another popular Southtown destination, The Friendly Spot. Nestled near the historic King William neighborhood, this quaint  family-friendly, outdoor ice house looks like its own little fiesta with colorful vintage chairs and hanging decorations.  The bar is shaped like the Alamo, a fun addition.

The menu  is loaded with Tex/Mex favorites. The outdoor bar is a welcome place to sit, even if you’re sitting down for a mid-afternoon snack. On arrival, the welcoming bartender asked me what I’d like. After specifying “just something small,” he suggested the street taco. I went ahead and ordered two, as well as a cup of their homemade Sangria while I waited for the tacos.

The icy sangria was delicious and had a nice cooling effect while sititng outside in the hot, Texas weather. Though the tacos took some time to arrive, they were well worth the wait. Turns out simplicity is key — pork and pico de gallo wrapped up in small, palm size corn tortillas with a fresh squeeze of lime hit the spot. This is the perfect place to meet up with friends and/or co-workers for some tapas and a cold drink. Items are reasonably priced (everything under $10) and there are plenty of imported and domestic beers in bottles and on tap. Spurs games and occasional movies are shown. With Fiesta right around the corner you should be sure to stop by and grab a cervesa and a taco. Open all week from 11am-midnight.

Their website is currently under construction, but here’s the link. It should be up soon: http://www.thefriendlyspot.com/
