Texas A&M-University’s dance team, the Jaguarettes, invites its students, faculty, staff and the community to participate in the “On A Mission 5K Color Run” this week on campus.
The event benefits the university dance team as a fundraiser for future competitions, uniforms and other organizational expenses.
Speech Lecturer Courtney Bobb-Meilinger, head dance coach & spirit coordinator, said participants and spectators also can learn about local volunteer opportunities.
“We’re actually going to partner up with the Mays Center,” Bobb-Meilinger said. “They’re going to help us physically announce volunteer opportunities for faculty, staff and community.”
The race will start at 9:15 a.m. April 23 at the Patriots’ Casa Building on campus.
Bobb-Meilinger mentioned there will be tons of color powder that will be thrown on racers throughout the 5K.
“There’s four to five color stations,” Bobb-Meilinger said. “you’ll hit each one multiple times and be filled with tons of color.”
The race is the same morning as Ring Day on campus, so 5K organizers had to modify the route, Bobb-Meilinger said. Parking will open up for race runners at 7 a.m. and check-in will begin at 8 a.m. in front of the Madla Building.
First-, second-and third-place winners will receive medals at a party after the race, she said.
