The Office of Student Life will host Texas A&M University-San Antonio’s first Jaguar Den Tailgate on Oct. 31 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Lot 2B.
Students are encouraged to attend and support the Jaguar men’s and women’s soccer teams as they face the Huston-Tillotson University Rams from home.
The Jaguar women’s soccer game kicks off at 1 p.m. and the men’s soccer game against the Rams will follow at 3:30 p.m.
“This event was created to promote student engagement and boost school spirit,” said Student Life Director Emily Banda.
As the school grows, the student culture surrounding athletics begins to take shape. This tailgate will be the first of its kind at A&M San-Antonio, and while traditions are still being determined, the university’s mission is quite clear.
“Our student campus is not familiar with the tailgating culture,” Banda said. “So that’s what we’re trying to create and establish so that it can be a longstanding tradition on campus.”
Participants can expect to find a variety of traditional tailgate food and games at the inaugural event.
Student organizations will giveaway free sausage wraps, street tacos, Hot Cheetos with cheese and jalapeno poppers. The Office of Student Life will also be serving 200 free Korean hot dogs to those who check in using the JagSync event pass.
Students can identify tents giving away food by locating the tailgate flags in Lot 2B.
The first 100 students to arrive have the chance to win a free vuvuzela or soccer horn to project their excitement during the match.
Live music will be provided by the Solis Brothers from Castroville, TX.
This event is free and open to the A&M-San Antonio community.
Feedback received from students after the event will help Student Life decide if the tailgate will return in the spring for Homecoming.
