The Campus Activities Board has extended the deadline to enter the inaugural virtual General’s Talent Show to 11:59 p.m., April 27 due to very few audition entries. The original deadline was April 21.

The talent show is a chance for students to showcase what makes them unique, support fellow classmates and de-stress from everything going on in the world during the pandemic.

The show is hosting virtual auditions and all entries must be emailed to ejones@tamusa.edu. Each video must be around 1-2 minutes and may be edited down. Any forms of talent will be accepted including singing, dancing, musical performances, gymnastics and martial arts.

Aside from the University’s first Open Mic Night event which started in 2018, this is the first year Texas A&M-San Antonio will be hosting a talent show.

“Nothing like this has ever been done before, but we want to provide students a sense of realism despite everything suddenly switching to online,” Valeria Rodriguez, Campus Activities Board event coordinator, said. “We’re looking for auditions where the student is comfortable. They don’t have to be an expert. We just want to see them happy.”

Student submissions for the show will be compiled and posted April 28 onto A&M-San Antonio’s The Scoop’s YouTube channel where the audience will vote for their favorite acts through the comments section. The deadline to vote is noon May 1 and the winners will be announced the following evening on the Campus Activities Board Instagram @cabtamusa.

“Gift card prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place contestants,” Emilee Jones, Campus Activities Board student director, said. “We’re all hoping for a good turnout rate.”
