Cheer Club to host recruitment meeting
By Kasandra Vela
The Cheer Club will host a mandatory recruitment meeting at 6 p.m. March 17 on Zoom to discuss important information regarding tryouts.
It is looking for students who are confident and determined; experience is not needed.
Cheer Club President Demi Villarreal said it is looking for students who “want to be a part of something that is bigger than themselves.” Club members will attend practices weekly, perform at home sport games and appear at campus events.
Students should come ready to ask questions and to learn more about expenses, practices, tryouts and what to expect as Texas A&M University-San Antonio cheerleaders.
Cheer Club is open to current A&M-San Antonio students, incoming freshmen and transfer students who have already been accepted to the school, Villarreal said.
Tryout requirements and information on the virtual tryouts will be given out during the recruitment meeting.
Students should RSVP on JagSync where they will find the Zoom link to join the meeting.

Student Investment Organization offers financial education for students
By Daniel Chevez
The Student Investment Organization, a student-run organization that promotes financial education at Texas A&M University-San Antonio, hosts a virtual meeting at 5:30 p.m every Wednesday on Zoom.
The next meeting is March 17.
The president of the organization, Armando Alanis, wants to bring more attention to the group. The SIO’s goals are to bring students together to build their network, discuss investments and business in general, and teach others technical skills they have learned at the university.
Alanis says that with investments, “information constantly changes and the economy changes, so you are constantly reading and learning new things,” which is information that can readily be discussed at SIO meetings.
The organization was founded in 2020.
The SIO also seeks to have a comfortable setting for students to ask questions in a wide range of investment areas, such as stocks, retirement and cryptocurrencies. Alanis said the SIO is likely to be more heavily involved with events on campus in the future.
Alanis said the meetings will be “really, really laid back” and looks forward to meeting new students curious about the SIO. Students can join the March 17 meeting here.
