Communication student remembered

Updated 4:30 p.m. Nov. 17

Texas A&M-San Antonio communications student Kevin Michael Martinez passed away earlier this month.

Students and faculty were notified of the passing of the 24-year-old McAllen native on Nov. 2.

Martinez was a junior at Texas A&M-San Antonio where he was pursuing a degree in Communication with a minor in Political Science.

An alumni of the Alamo Colleges, Martinez worked as a sales assistant for Mercedes-Benz of Boerne while continuing his education at A&M-San Antonio.  Martinez planned to graduate in the Spring of 2017.

Classmates of Martinez, shocked by the information, began coordinating with university officials to formalize a standard procedure for future such incidents.

A candle lighting ceremony will be held in his honor; the ceremony is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 17 at Patriots’ Casa Healing Garden.

Friends of Martinez are asked to attend the ceremony, as well as share memories online at a tributes.com page created in his honor.
