Dance team to offer final audition for 2019-2020 squad

The dance team at Texas A&M University-San Antonio is hosting summer tryouts 9 a.m.-noon July 20 in the auditorium.

The Jaguarettes are looking for six or more students to join the 2019-2020 squad, said Analisa Brunn, president of the dance team. There are currently 12 members on the squad. Their goal is to have 18 to 24 students.

Students must RSVP on JagSync at https://tamusa.campuslabs.com/engage/event/4131236. The JagSync page for the tryouts says students also must complete a survey and fill out a form on the dance team’s JagSync account.

There is a $15 tryout fee. Students must have a 2.5 GPA to be a member. Undergraduates must be enrolled in at least six credit hours. For graduate students, they must have three credit hours.

Students should wear black leggings, jazz pants or shorts to the tryouts, Brunn said. They should also wear fitted black shirts, performance makeup and jazz shoes or tennis shoes. They also should have a positive attitude, she said.

Students must be able to perform turns as well as leaps, Brunn said. Students will learn a routine the day of the tryouts. The routine will be taught by their choreographer, which will include all the skills that are in a tryout packet the students will receive.

The Jaguarettes will announce the new team an hour after the tryouts are complete. The new team will then hold its first meeting to review the fall schedule. Practices are 10:30 a.m.-12:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The Jaguarettes make appearances at Festival de Cascarones, Lights of Esperanza, basketball games, soccer games, Welcome Week and some Fiesta events.

“We are always there to support each other,” Brunn said. “It’s like a second family to me.”

The dance team has been around since 2018.

“My favorite thing about being on the team would definitely be performing and just being with the squad,” said Brunn.
