HOLT CAT, a regional heavy equipment and engine dealer, will present the Texas A&M-San Antonio Foundation a check for $500,000 in scholarships today.
The press conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. in the main foyer of Main Campus Building.
President Maria Ferrier and Mark Outlaw, chairman of the A&M-San Antonio Foundation, will accept the check from Peter Holt, CEO and chairman of HOLT CAT. Holt is also the CEO and owner of Spurs Sports and Entertainment.
The $500,000 award is the largest gift to the foundation since A&M-San Antonio became a stand-alone university in 2009.
The A&M-San Antonio Foundation works to provide financial resources for students, according to the university’s website.
The scholarships have specific requirements for applicants and will be awarded to students within the university, said Jillian Reddish, senior communications specialist.
Dr. Frank Madla and university representatives will also recognize a $10,000 contribution from HOLT CAT to the Sen. Frank L. Madla Memorial Statue Campaign. Dr. Madla is the son of the late senator.
The statue will be placed on university grounds in early 2014.
Sen. Madla represented San Antonio for 20 years in the state House and 13 years in the Senate. Until his death Nov. 24, 2006, Sen. Madla was active in efforts to bring a public university to the city’s South Side.
