Ready to Graduate? Don’t forget your application

Senior pictures, inviting family and even participating in commencements are options but applying for graduation is a requirement.

Seniors, graduation application season is here.

March marked the start of the Fall 17 graduation application, a process to ensure students meet degree requirements.  Seniors have until Sept. 3 to apply for fall graduation.

“All students are required to apply for graduation in order for their degree to be awarded,” said graduation coordinator Dolores Scritchfield.

Mass emails are sent to both juniors and seniors at Texas A&M University-San Antonio.

Sociology senior Edward Perez, 25, was informed that graduation applications have opened up but was unsure where to start.

On the university website, there is a link under “Current Students” that will lead to a page designated for “graduation services”. Current students can go into Jagwire to find the application. The application is here.

Kinesiology senior Maricela Martinez, 24, is graduating spring 2017 and already completed the graduation application.

“The application process was very simple and straightforward,” Martinez said. “It took no longer than 10 minutes to complete.”

After submitting the application, students have for approval. Once approved, the student needs to pay the graduation fee. This may be done via Money Connect or in person at the Student Business Services Office.

Students may also begin preparing for commencements. Commencement is a ceremony that is held in honor of the completion and/or in anticipation of your fulfilling all academic requirements.

Students are not required to attend the commencement ceremony December 19 at Freeman Coliseum.

Graduation Fairs are held to assist students to prepare for the commencement ceremony.  Dates and times for the fairs will be listed on the Graduation services website.
The Office of the Registrar orders diplomas six weeks after graduation. Once received by the school, they are held in the Welcome Center for two weeks where students can pick them up. After the two weeks they are mailed to the student’s permanent address.
