Students at Texas A&M University-San Antonio can stop by a domestic violence awareness tabling event hosted by the University Police Department to learn more about the issue and receive swag from noon to 1 p.m. on Oct. 22 in the lobby of the Central Academic Building.
Last year the university dome lit up in a purple glow in honor of domestic violence awareness month during October.
“Domestic violence is not just physical violence. It can also be financial emotional or psychological abuse,’’ said Joni Baker, the Civil Rights Officer and Title IX Coordinator at A&M-San Antonio.
Students who stop by the tableing can expect free items including brochures on domestic violence, dating violence, stalking and sexual assault.
Baker said student organizations can invite the Office of Victim Services and Crime Prevention to share more information with them by contacting UPD.
Students and staff can also wear purple to show support and solidarity with victims and survivors of domestic violence.
If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, make sure to stop by the tabling event to learn how you can advocate for yourself or for them. You can also call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-7233.
