The Jaguar Leadership Institute at Texas A&M University-San Antonio hosted the first of two sessions of the Student Leadership Challenge on Saturday, Oct. 22. Five students gathered in suite 103 in the Central Academic Building to strengthen and improve their leadership skills.
The free workshop was inspired by the best-selling and award-winning book, “The Student Leadership Challenge,” by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner.
During the workshop, students took a Leadership Practices Inventory, or LPI, a self-assessment tool made by Kouzes and Posner for students to measure their personal best.
Student will self-reflect and learn about the five practices of exemplary leadership and how they can improve on each practice.
The five practices of exemplary leadership include:
- Model the way
- Inspire a shared vision
- Challenge the process
- Enable others to act
- Encourage the heart
Student Activities Coordinator, Sheryl Legras, facilitated the Student Leadership Workshop and encourages other A&M-San Antonio students to participate.
“They [students] are gonna work for companies that look for students who are coming with leadership skill sets. They should be able to express that they have a skill set,” Legras said.
Interested students can attend a one-day workshop this Saturday, Oct. 29 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The deadline to register is Friday, Oct. 28 at 12:00 p.m. online through OrgSync.
