The Texas A&M University-San Antonio women’s soccer team took on undefeated Louisiana College at Wildcat Field Thursday Sept. 30 losing 8-0 to their conference opponent in roughly two hours of action.
A couple of offside penalties and fouls were not enough to slow down Louisiana College as they started off the first half hot, scoring five goals against A&M-San Antonio. The Jags perservered to the very end searching for solutions as the rotation saw 14 substitutions throughout the day.
Louisiana College moved to 3-0 while A&M-San Antonio moved to 0-1-2 in the Red River standings.
(10/2) @ LSU-Alexandria (Postponed)
The A&M-San Antonio women’s team ended their conference road trip taking on LSU-Alexandria at General’s Field. This matchup only lasted 30 minutes into the first half before being postponed due to inclement weather.
The forecast of the evening in Alexandria, Louisiana delivered thunderstorms with 85% humidity during game time.
Rebounding after a tough loss, A&M-San Antonio started out the game aggressively, committing four fouls and allowing one goal within the first 15 minutes of action.
An unfavorable start was concluded with an unofficial final score of 1-0 with LSU-Alexandria in the lead.
(10/7) vs Paul Quinn College
A&M-San Antonio’s women’s team returned home to defend A&M-San Antonio-Pitch against Paul Quinn College on Oct. 7, winning their first conference game of the season 2-0.
The Jags made it a priority to emphasize constant defense throughout the match calling for 17 total substitutions.
Cassidy Acosta, sophomore goalkeeper, shutout Paul Quinn College for the day, saving three shots from being scored in her first start.
A&M-San Antonio attempted ten goals total, scoring their first of the day within the first 20 minutes of action by Rheanna Lopez, freshman midfielder, off an assist by Olivia Olivarez Coil, freshman striker-midfielder.
A&M-San Antonio maintained a solid defensive stance for most of the afternoon before scoring again 11 minutes into the second half.
Krystal Goytia, freshman striker, scored the final goal of the day assisted by Mia Davis, freshman midfielder.
A&M-San Antonio improved to 1-1-2 in the Red River Conference standings following the win.
(10/9) vs Southwest (N.M.)
The A&M-San Antonio women’s team found themselves up against another tough matchup as they hosted an undefeated University of the Southwest (New Mexico). Southwest (N.M.) went on to defeat A&M-San Antonio 3-0.
A&M-SA’s back was against the wall all afternoon as a persistent Southwest (N.M.) offense attempted a total of 18 goals, scoring once in the first half and twice in the second half.
Goalkeeper Acosta was kept busy throughout the game-saving 15 out of the 18 goals attempted.
The team has continuously shown steady improvement as their inaugural season unravels. This was A&M-San Antonio’s lowest loss deficit of the season.
The Jags now hold a 1-2-2 Red River conference record, placing their win percentage just below .500 on the season.
A&M-San Antonio’s women’s team will embark on a four-game stretch visiting conference opponents starting with Jarvis Christian College, Thursday Oct. 14 at 1 p.m.
The team returns home Wednesday Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. in a non conference matchup against Schreiner University.
