On Aug. 28, Governor Greg Abbott activated the Texas National Guard to aid in search and rescue efforts in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.
Texas A&M University-San Antonio Director of Military Affairs Richard Delgado confirmed Aug. 28 that at least nine students deployed or are in the process of being sent to the Houston area.
If you are a student or know a student who has been activated, refer to the 2017 – 2018 University Catalog under Withdrawal of Students Ordered to Military Active Duty for proper procedure.
The procedure states that students ordered to military active duty who can provide a copy of military orders and will miss over 25 percent of the total number of class meetings or contact hour equivalents can receive one of the following:
1) Full refund of tuition and fees for the semester;
2) Incomplete grade(s) for the semester in which the student withdraws;
3) Assignment of an appropriate final grade(s) or credit(s);
“Students not to exceed 25 percent of the total number of class meetings or contact hour equivalents…shall be excused from attending classes or engaging in other required activities, including examinations,” according to the A&M-San Antonio catalog.
Delgado stressed that students activated should call him at (210) 784-1175 or to stop by his office in Military Affairs located in The Patriots’ Casa.
“If we do not know about the situation we cannot assist,” Delgado said.
