The esports program will be hosting a week-long streaming charity event in early June. Viewers will be able to watch and donate to a charity on the esports team’s Twitch. The program is still determining a specific date and which charity to support.

Esports coach Travis Yang said he hopes to recruit team members and university staffers to play.

“I would like most of the esports team members to participate, and I am thinking about including the community, but I am not sure,” Yang said. “I would like to invite a few staff, like [Intercollegiate Sports Director] Darnell Smith and [Recreational Sports Director] Art Olague to also come play as I think it would be fun to watch.”

Annabella Deleon, graduate esports assistant, also says she plans to participate and likes the idea of this event.

“I do want to try to play if possible as I think this is really awesome,” Deleon said. “I think it would be really fun to try to get some people from rec sports to come over and play too.”

Deleon is also in charge of advertising the event and plans to advertise it on the esports’ Linktree page here. She plans to update the page as details become available.

Yang says the games are to be determined but hopes to bring a variety to the week.

He also is excited to be able to have this charity event.

“This is our first external charity event that hopefully goes well so we can make it a yearly thing,” Yang said.

The first charity event the esports program hosted was the Jag-Wars in June 2020.
