The Texas A&M University-San Antonio men’s golf team is en route to the All Conference Championship hosted by the Victoria Country Club in Victoria, Texas, May 3-4

Led by head coach Christi Cano, the Jaguars will compete in their first A.I.I. Conference Championship. The Association of Independent Institutions was created to promote education, development and welfare of student athletes through programs, events and participation in NAIA intercollegiate athletics. Activities mainly take place from August-May

A&M-San Antonio and the Red River Athletic Conference will be represented by Javier “Javy” Jazo, finance junior, Donald Harper, general business freshman, Alejandro Guarneros, business freshman, Noel Silva, psychology freshman, and Michael Burnias, criminology freshman.

Other schools competing in the championship include Our Lady of the Lake University and the University of Houston-Victoria representing the Red River Athletic Conference.

“We definitely feel prepared. We have had a lot of good practice lately, and played this course earlier in the season,” Jazo said of the upcoming tournament.

In preparation, the Jags have been participating in scrimmages against Our Lady of the Lake and the University of Southwest at the Golf Club of Texas-San Antonio where they’ve shot season low scores.

“This was an outstanding inaugural season,” Jazo said. “We have really enjoyed representing TAMUSA on the golf course. The team as a whole has formed a bond that will last a lifetime. We are all happy to be Jaguars.”
