H-E-B now delivers to campus - The Mesquite Online News - Texas A&M University-San Antonio

Texas grocery chain H-E-B is now offering free grocery delivery to Texas A&M University-San Antonio. Shoppers can place an order in the "My H-E-B" app and pick up their items from one of two designated locations on A&M-San Antonio's campus. Photo by Amber Esparza

Texas A&M University-San Antonio’s students, faculty and staff will be able to order their H-E-B groceries online and have them delivered to designated areas on campus.

After checking out and paying with a credit card, a runner from Favor will text the customer an estimated time of arrival.

There will be two zones for picking up items once the runner has arrived, which are both easy to find. Zone 1 will be in front of Esperanza Hall. Zone 2 will be outside the Central Academic Building, near the mailroom.

A zone three may soon be added near the Patriot’s Casa in the future if necessary.

The runner could then wait up to 15 minutes. The runner will not get out of their vehicle to drop off anyone’s delivery. Users must make sure to be at their designated spot at the time of pickup.

“Being a new product line on campus, there will be a lot of questions that we will modify and get answers from H-E-B on,” said Corrin Le Vasseur, executive director of business affairs at A&M-San Antonio.

To order:

  1. Download the “My H-E-B” app or visit www.heb.com to start an order.
  2. Shop for the desired items.
  3. Choose a desired delivery time and date.
  4. Input the H-E-B delivery zone address during checkout.
  5. Arrive at the delivery zone at the time of pickup.

A&M-San Antonio will be joining other campuses that already have this service, such as College Station, which has about 18 zones for designated areas of pickup because of its large campus size of about 5,200 acres.

“We’re learning from what College Station has already learned,” Le Vasseur said.

As of now, it is unknown whether customers must place a minimum order to receive a delivery or what hours will be available for campus delivery. However, there is a $5 shipping cost to complete any order. There is also an option to tip your driver.

According to Aaron Guerrero, civic engagement coordinator here at A&M-San Antonio, the orders he has purchased have gone really well.

“The cost savings have been substantial. We’re going to keep using them every week,” Guerrero said.

H-E-B delivery was set to start Sept. 26.

According to the rules and regulations page on the A&M-San Antonio website, alcohol purchase, service, possession and consumption are not permitted except in areas designated by the chief executive officer.
