Texas A&M University-San Antonio’s softball team, the Jaguars, are aiming to run their successful last season back for the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Championship in their upcoming 2024 season.
The Jaguars will start off their pre-season this fall with a doubleheader game Sept. 30.
Head Coach Nicole Dufour discussed the team’s expectations for the upcoming season in an interview on Sept. 28.
“Team Three pushed the bar and it puts pressure on Team Four to push even more,” Dufour said. “The entire roster knows what Team Three did. Team Four’s goal is to do better than that.”
The Jaguars are entering their fourth year of A&M-San Antonio’s softball program.
The softball team has a total of 28 players this year, an additional eight members from last year’s roster of 20.
13 out of 28 players are transfer and freshmen students with 15 players being returning athletes.
“We are jumping right into it, that is just the best way for us to get a clearer picture of what we need to do moving forward within the eight weeks in the fall semester,” Dufour said.
Senior Catcher Samantha Gaona also commented on the players’ chemistry for the upcoming season.
“So far we have an amazing group and practicing this week feels and looks a lot better than last year,” Gaona said. “I am very pleased to see their high expectations and bond for the short period of time we had.”
The Jaguars will play this Saturday, Sept. 30 at Our Lady of The Lake University’s Softball field against the OLLU Saints at 9 a.m. and then the Coastal Bend College Cougars at 11 a.m.
