Jaguars offense explodes in home conference opener
The Texas A&M University-San Antonio women’s soccer team scored five goals in a home win against conference opponent Jarvis Christian University Bulldogs, making it back-to-back victories for the Jaguars.

Senior midfielder Ana Barragan created offense early, earning a hat trick in the first 14 minutes of the match, giving the Jags an early 3-0 lead.
Barragan’s hat trick performance was a result of unselfish play from her teammates finding her in scoring areas. Three assists came from senior forward Skylar Parker, junior midfielder Jasmin Dominguez and junior defender Samara Lopez.
Barragan said the cohesion between her team has been improving.
“It’s a team sport, so I think we’ve all been clicking together,” Barragan said. “We started getting chemistry together.”
Stretching the lead, Parker and senior forward Avry Scott tacked on a goal a piece, resulting in the final score, 5-2.
This offensive performance has been the highest scoring outpour for the Jags this season, and head coach Tim Moody believes his team is trending in a positive direction on that side of the ball.
“We’re starting to find ourselves in our offense, scoring goals,” Moody said.
The Jaguars will continue their conference play at 1 p.m. Sept. 27 at home against Texas A&M University-Texarkana.
Balanced attack extends Jaguars win streak to four
The Jaguar men’s soccer team improved to 4-0-1 after a 2-0 win over JCU.

A&M-San Antonio’s two goal-lead came within the first seven minutes of the game, following goals by senior midfielder Joey De La Torre at the 33-second mark and senior forward Ronald Aguilar at the 6:33 mark.
After scoring in quick succession, the Jaguars’ defense held up against the Bulldogs, holding them scoreless throughout the game.
Head coach Robert Jaramillo said their pressure on the ball and relentlessness kept the Bulldogs at bay.
“Our defense really starts with our guy on top. We press really high, we press the whole game,” Jaramillo said. “We were able to keep them where we needed them to be.”
Throughout the game, the referees issued two red cards against JCU, leading to two ejections. The physical play was constant from the Bulldogs, but senior midfielder Oscar “Toro” Hernandez says the team had to stay poised throughout.
“We have to keep our composure; we have to be a really smart team,” Hernandez said.
The Jags will continue their conference play at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at home against Texas A&M University-Texarkana.
