Students will finally settle the debate of who’s better, Freddy or Jason, in a spooky game night extravaganza.
Texas A&M University-San Antonio’s new Public Speaking and Debate Club will celebrate Halloween with its first event, “Game Night: Spooky Edition,” 2-3 p.m. Oct. 29 in Room 125 of the Science and Technology Building.
Carlos Ortega, a political science sophomore and vice president of the club, said the event is meant to build community.
“We’re a relatively new organization, so, I think starting us off with something that’s very cordial is a good starting point for us,” Ortega said.
Students including Ortega and club President Meredith Puente formed an interest group in late spring 2025. The group would later gain official recognition by A&M-San Antonio. The club’s faculty adviser is Kandice Diaz, lecturer of communication.
The trivia-based event will consist of lighthearted debate relating to Halloween.
Participants will be split up into teams and receive a prompt or question on a popular spooky topic, such as “best horror slasher.” Students will be given time to form their argument before presenting why they are right and the other team is wrong.
All students are allowed to attend the event. Attendees are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes.
Refreshments such as bottled drinks will be provided.
To join the club, students must meet these requirements: at least a 2.0 G.P.A. and no academic probation.
The club is looking to add a member to its public relations team. The role will assist in collecting content for the club at events.
