November elections forecast low-voter turnout

Early voting for Bexar County’s Constitutional Amendment Election opened this past Monday.

As of Thursday afternoon, Bexar County’s early election count totaled only 3,138 votes cast in-person out of the 1,049,400 registered voters in Bexar County, according to the county’s elections website.

With election day set on Nov. 7, voters have the opportunity to cast their ballot early until Friday, Nov. 3.

According to the Legislative Reference Library of Texas, the Constitutional Amendment Election brings seven proposed amendments brought by the 85th Texas Legislature as well as two propositions for the county and others for surrounding cities.

The proposed amendment topics include: property taxes, raffles, and home equity loan provisions, among others.

Gilbert Saic, elections coordinator at the Bexar County Elections Department, described what he usually sees as far as voter participation.

“Low voter turnout is typical for this type of election,” Saic said. “10 percent or less is what we expect.”

Voters have access to 34 early voting sites throughout the city. Those not able to vote in person may opt for mail-in voting.

For questions related to the voting process, refer to the Bexar County Elections Department website for more information.
