Southwest Legacy High School Varsity Baseball is back for the spring 2021 season.

Homer Flores, head coach of Legacy men’s varsity baseball, described how the team finished out last season with the city’s mandatory stay-home order.

“With last season cut short due to the city shutdown for COVID-19 protocols, seniors had to rely on highlight videos from previously recorded games to gain recognition from scouts in hopes of receiving a scholarship,” Flores said.

This spring season Legacy Baseball looks to avoid a repeat of last season’s stoppage and complete a full season with the addition of some CDC guidelines.

In order for games to be played, each player has to wear a face mask at all times. If necessary, players are allowed to take masks off for breathers only if the player lets officials know and steps 6 feet away from other players.

Although Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has lifted the face-mask mandate, according to UIL guidelines students are still required to wear face masks during any athletic event.

The team’s current record is 7-12 as they take on Harlendale High School, 7:30 p.m. March 30  at home.
