The Command the Room, Executive Presence for Women conference comes to Texas A&M University-San Antonio Feb. 26 to give powerful training tools for women to succeed at work and life.
The conference will start at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 7:00 p.m. in the Vista Room in Central Academic Building. University President Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson will serve as keynote speaker.

During the presentations, participants will gain the tools to succeed and earn confidence to career advancement. Professional women and students are encouraged to attend.
“Sometimes we are not putting our best foot forward with our dress, speech and even our ability to promote ourselves,” Santos said. “Command the Room will provide women with the tools they need to up their career game.”
Participants may register for the conference on Eventbrite. Sponsorship opportunities are available. For more information, contact Rosann Santos at rosann517@gmail.com. Registration for the conference is open until Feb. 25 is $69 and $75 on site.

Q&A with Rosann Santos
Ramon: Why is it important for women to attend this conference?
Santos: This conference is an investment, a small investment with a high return. Women are still underpaid and overlooked and sometimes the reasons are not external or sexist. Sometimes we are not putting our best foot forward with our dress, speech and even our ability to promote ourselves. Command the Room will provide women with the tools they need to up their career game.
Ramon: What about this conference women should look forward to?
Santos:The speaker list is amazing. I want to highlight Ms. Teri Bump, the VP of University Relations and Student Development for American Campus Communities. Ms. Bump is a huge advocate for the diversification of the pipeline in higher education. She cares about women’s development in general and is a strong mentor for women of color and women veterans. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention President Teniente-Matson. The conference would not be happening if it were not for her generosity. Everything I have read and heard is that she is a powerhouse and role model for Latinas. I cannot wait to meet her and hear her keynote address. If it were not for Ms. Bump and President Teniente-Matson, this event would not be happening. The support for Latinas in Higher Education is unmatched and I am so pleased to see the organization catapulted like this.
Ramon: What advice would you give women hesitant attending this conference?
Santos:I’d tell them don’t be. They will be exposed to a fantastic network of women in their region. They will meet a few women from other parts of the country as well. And they will again, invest in themselves. One day to obtain a complete toolkit of tips, tricks and strategies for moving up in your career is priceless. We Latinas have the education, the know-how and where with all to run universities, companies, start-ups – you name it. We just need some training on some basics like gravitas, communication and appearance. We may be good in one or some of these. But after this conference women will have the tools to be GREAT in all of them.
