AMA launches Marketing Week through Thursday

The School of Business will hold its inaugural Marketing Week Oct. 3-7 at Brooks City-Base. Marketing Week is held on campuses throughout the country to offer marketing, business and other interested majors the opportunity to attend career fairs, networking dinners, guest speakers and meet company representatives.

The week long event held at Brooks City-Base Campus is organized by the university’s American Marketing Association student chapter and offered support through the Chicago-based AMA, which helps professional and student organizations plan conferences, workshops and recruiting events.

MONDAY

The American Marketing Association chapter for A&M-San Antonio will have a booth at Brooks Campus from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. for recruiting and club information.

“We are trying to revamp recruitment at our university,” Lorena Moreno, president of the AMA chapter here said. “We are trying to incorporate club information at every event.”

The cost to join the AMA is $62 when you combine national and local fees.

TUESDAY

The AMA chapter will have a booth at Brooks Campus from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. for recruiting and fundraising. Money from the fundraising event will go to help the AMA chapter attend its first ever AMA International Collegiate Conference held every year in New Orleans.

Around 1,200 students from universities AMA chapters from around the world attend the event. Companies from around the country give insight into their companies. Job fairs and seminars also take place during the event.

“Around 5 to 6 AMA members from A&M-San Antonio will attend the event to represent our club and the university,” Moreno said. “It will be beneficial to our members to network.”

WEDNESDAY

Marketing Week culminates with guest speaker Bobby Baker, Xerox’s principal communications and marketing service specialist. Baker will speak on the “Integrating Print and the Digital World: Helping Small Businesses Execute Cross-Media Campaigns” from 12 p.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 5 in Room 168.

The event is free and open to all students. Attendees must RSVP by Oct. 3 at membershipama@gmail.com or by calling Moreno at 210.461.7565.

Refreshments will be handed out during the event.

THURSDAY

The AMA student chapter will hold a seminar about QR Tags from 6 p.m.-8 p.m in the main entrances of Brooks Campus. QR Tags are a mobile application that will be explained how useful they could be for A&M-San Antonio and the marketing department.

“We will be discussing ways of communication with technology,” Moreno said.
