Mays Center to host virtual career fair

By Claire Caraway

The Mays Center for Experiential Learning and Community Engagement is hosting a virtual Career Fair from 1-4 p.m. on March 3. The event is open to Texas A&M University-San Antonio students and alumni, as well as students from other local colleges that are a part of The San Antonio Colleges and Universities Career Centers Association (SACUCCA).

Over 20 companies and organizations such as H-E-B, Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and more will be there to talk with participants.

The event will be split into two parts, one for group meetings and one for individual meetings. The group meetings will allow multiple participants to speak with different companies and learn more about them. The individual meetings will allow participants 10 minutes of one-on-one time with the companies.

Students can see a list of the employers who will be attending on Handshake.

Dr. Yasir Kurt, assistant director of Career Services, advises participants to do research about the companies they would like to speak with.

“Students have to be really great communicators,” Kurt said.

Kurt also advises to dress professionally and have a clean “background” or to use the ones provided on Zoom by A&M-San Antonio.

“Be sharp. Be confident. That is the most important thing,” Kurt said.

To register and attend, log into JagSync or Handshake and search for the event, or visit JagSync or Handshake. For more information about the Fair, contact the Mays Center at mays@tamusa.edu.

Jaguar Writing Center to host “What’s the Main Idea” workshop

By Carolina Amor

The Jaguar Writing Center will host a “What’s the Main Idea” workshop from noon-1 p.m. March 4 on Zoom.

The center hosts two meetings per semester, one at the beginning and one toward the end. They adjust the topic of each workshop to the needs of students.

The workshop on March 4 will focus on the structure of a paper’s main idea.

“Coming to these workshops exposes students to topics that might be confusing or something that they need just a little extra practice working with,” said Randee Schmitt, a tutor at the center.

To register, students can visit https://tamusa.campuslabs.com/engage/event/6731117

Students interested in attending the event are not required to bring any items; all materials needed will be provided by the writing center through a file in Google Drive.

For more information, visit www.tamusa.edu/Writing-Center or email Katherine.Bridgman@tamusa.edu. Students can connect with the writing center by following them on Instagram @wctamusa.
