The newest addition to the Texas A&M University-San Antonio campus will be the College of Business and Library Building. The 15- to 18-month construction process is expected to be completed in summer 2022.
Groundbreaking on the Business and Library Building took place November 2020 and construction officially began in January.
Located on the south side of campus, the 100,000-square-foot building will be made up of three floors that include the library, 15 classrooms, 17 library offices and 70 College of Business faculty and administration offices.
Executive Director of Operations David McKenna said there have been minimal disruptions because of COVID-19.
“Right now, we’re in good shape on the construction timeline and moving along very well,” McKenna said, noting the building should be finished in late summer of 2022.
McKenna’s department covers facilities, planning and construction over capital projects at A&M-San Antonio, and is overseeing the College of Business and Library Building.
The building had an original budget of $53 million, which has held firm so far since its groundbreaking in November 2020.
With no major supply restrictions or delays, the department expects no changes to be made to the budget at this point, McKenna said.
Until construction is complete on the new building, both the College of Business and the University Library will continue to be housed in the Central Academic Building, according to McKenna.
