FAE, a Feminst campus club, established Feminist Fridays. The segment recognizes a feminist figure each Friday during the month of February.
FAE is an acronym for “Feminist Advocacy & Empowerment”. Its main goal is to provide a safe space to support and promote gender equality and acceptance in the Jaguar community.
Destiny Pappas, founder of the club and business management senior, wants people to keep in mind, “Feminism isn’t just for women, it’s for everyone.”
To be recognized, the feminist does not have to identify as female, but they must be living, active in the San Antonio community and cannot be a celebrity.
“It’s for every race, ethnicity and gender,” Pappas said.
Pappas said the club hopes to make the first Feminist Fridays post on Feb. 18.
The club also hopes to initiate campus-wide consent training. As a newer institution, FAE feels like a proactive approach could prevent sexual assaults on campus.
FAE is accepting nominations through JagSync, Google Doc or on Instagram to @fae.tamusa.
