Students at Texas A&M University-San Antonio can get out and give back this Earth Day at the Influencer Club’s Park Clean Up 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. April 22 at Confluence Park, 310 W. Mitchell St.

Celebrating Earth Day as well as National Volunteer Month, the Influencer Club will host its second annual park cleanup to support the Southside community.

Nayahna Trevino, club president and political science senior, said in a Zoom interview April 9 that something as small as a park clean up is easy to assemble and makes just as much of an impact in the community.

“Of course it’s a great way to give back, but you don’t have to look at it as something that’s taking time away from you,” Trevino said. “At the end of the day you’re giving that time to something else but you’re also making these fun experiences with your friends and other members. We try to also dismantle that whole idea of ‘it’s work.’ It’s actually super fun to hang out and to do these park cleanups”

Anyone on or off campus can volunteer to pick up litter by RSVPing on Jagsync or showing up at Confluence Park. Hosts will provide gloves, trashbags and light refreshments.

The event was sponsored by Garnier Hair Care last year, and this year’s event will be sponsored by Dove Beauty. All participants will receive mini Dove deodorants.

Trevino encourages students to participate because philanthropy is not only something to put on their resumes but also to practice throughout their career.

Trevino said participation in the cleanup is close to the Influencer Club’s mission. Influencers use platforms to show others what community impact can look like.
