Mays Center hosts event to register students to vote
By Lauren Mayes
The Mays Center is hosting “Last Chance! Register to Vote,” a tabling event for students, noon to 3 p.m. on Oct. 5 in the courtyard of the Central Academic Building.
Oct. 5 is the deadline to register to vote in the presidential election Nov. 3.
The election also includes races such as U.S. senators and representatives, state senators and representatives, railroad commissioners, Texas Supreme Court justices, judges, Bexar County commissioners, school board trustees, municipal and school district propositions, and city council members in surrounding cities. Amber Graham, civic engagement coordinator for the Mays Center, expressed how important the event is for students.
“We want students to exercise their right to vote,” Graham said. “ Not every country gets to do this, we’re very unique. We want students to do this, to register and to also follow through with that registration and to vote.”
Students can also check their registration status at the event. The Mays Center will deliver the registration cards for students and giveaways will be presented.
