By making use of a student ID, students also can take advantage of discounts in entertainment, technology and local restaurants.
Having a student ID is a way to protect the identity of students and to prove that students are enrolled at this university and have access to services here.
However, some students are still confused as to where to obtain student IDs such as history junior Adrian Hernandez.
“I still don’t have my student ID. To be honest, I don’t even know where to go get it,” he said.
Students can get an ID in the welcome center in Room 106 of Main Campus Building. Students will have to provide his or her K number and full name.
The center’s hours are 8 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m.-5 p.m Friday.
Also, each time a student needs assistance from the welcome center, a student must present a student ID.
According to the university website, the welcome center is a place where staff can provide assistance for students applying for admission, filling out FAFSA and addressing enrollment concerns, including answering questions about student accounts, financial aid, registration, veteran benefits and admission.
Students also are required to show a student ID to use the computer labs and for library services such as checking out a book. The computer lab at the Main Campus is in Room 107 and the computer lab at Brooks Campus is in Rooms 198 and 200.
Education junior Kris Atkinson said, “My student ID has not only allowed me services here at A&M, but I can also get great discounts at many places.”
Because college students are known for being on a tight budget, students can take full advantage of discounts off campus.
The Apple Store offers a student discount on software and computers and museums, bowling alleys and movie theaters also offer a student discount with an ID.
“I go to the movies with my friends every Monday and we use our student IDs to get a discount. Having a student ID has saved me tons of money,” communications junior Brianna Luna said.

- San Antonio Art Museum – $5
- Institute of Texas Cultures – $6
