Last year, in an attempt to have a few of my degree questions answered, I made an appointment with my academic advisor. I gained two things from the appointment: first, more unanswered questions than I originally had, and second, names of staff I would need to chase down to have my questions answered. In short, I was given an unnecessary run-around.
Thankfully, the advising system has since changed, and I am content with the improved system and my new advisor. What is your experience? This week you have the opportunity to fill out a confidential 8-question survey to record positive changes or offer suggestions for improvement for Academic Advising services at A&M-San Antonio.
The survey, released July 5, is open for responses until 11:59 p.m. July 27. To access the survey, students must first log in to Blackboard then click on the “My Advising Survey” which is found under the “Tools” menu on the lefthand side. Only one survey is allowed per student and all survey results are confidential.
Whether individual experiences have been wonderful, so-so, or just plain terrible, student feedback on the quality of academic advising should be given in order to continuously improve our growing University’s student services. Students who have thoughts or suggestions on the advising quality at TAMU-SA are encouraged to complete the survey to benefit our campus community.
The advising survey is important, especially for those who would like to see additional improvements. Some students still question the need for advisers to take lunch breaks at the same time. After all, it is full-time working students who often use their lunch break to run to Main Campus to receive advising; through the survey, students can express the inconvenience the advisor schedule has caused them.
Some students may not think this survey is relevant to them since they have visited an advisor only once since enrolling; through the survey, students can express why they haven’t felt the need to visit an advisor and how their advisor can be more useful to them.
Students that have any difficulty accessing or completing the survey before July 27 are advised to contact the TAMU-SA Help Desk via telephone (210) 784-4357 or via email at helpdesk@tamusa.tamus.edu.
