There is no shortage of cereal bars. Ask anyone who attends this university. The wrappers are everywhere. Cereal bars are in and out, and back in again. So, what do you eat? Here’s a few of my brand favorites and you might be able to think of one or two I didn’t mention.
- First are these new milk and cereal bars, good for breakfast or just a quick snack. Now, this is a cereal bar (much like Rice Krispie treats) with the cereal on top and a sugary milk-flavored layer on the bottom. You can’t resist them. Available flavors include Trix cereal, Honey Nut Cheerios and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. You’re probably saying to yourself, “This seems weird,” but if you like Rice Krispie Treats, you’re in for the surprise of a lifetime.
- Another brand favorite is Nutri-Grain bars made by Kellogg’s. Now, there is something about the Nutri-Grain bar that is irresistible. Is it the 8g of whole wheat? No. The delicious fruit filling? No. It’s the uncanny resemblance to a Fig Newton (which, sad to say, did not make the list). The flavor is there in a major way and there’s a little bit of healthy stuff mixed in. Good eat.
- OK. Here’s one nobody but nobody has even heard about: the Luna bar. I have to admit, I’ve indulged in one or two Luna bars on occasion, but these are for women. I know, a breakfast bar for women. When I say this, you probably won’t believe me, but I think between the milk and cereal bars and these, I would go with these. I can’t describe it.
- Here is one I used to eat everyday. Not because I wanted to, but because I had to (no time for breakfast). The Oatmeal to Go bars. These bars are made to eat like a meal. A real meal. A meal that fills you up. Ehhhh…. That’s about all they’ve got going for them.
- And, of course, the bar that started it all, the Granola Bar. Who didn’t used to eat these as a kid? Well, I did and I know: they were good for a swap out at lunch-time. Maybe they’re still good for a swap out today? You probably can’t swap out for a house or a car (well, depending on how many you’ve got) but they’re well worth their weight in food.
- So, eat up (and don’t say I didn’t warn you!)
