Students can lace up their roller skates and get transported back to the ‘80s from noon-2 p.m. March 19 at Car Vel Skateland located at 2351 Goliad Road.

The Office of Transfer Student Engagement will host “Roller-Skating through the 80’s,” a private event for students and their families from Texas A&M University-San Antonio.

The event is part of Transfer Week this semester, and this is the first time the office will host an event at Car Vel Skateland, said Tiffany Balderas, transfer student coordinator.

Students and their families do not have to pay an admissions fee and will be provided with roller skates and free sunglasses, necklaces and headbands. Students can RSVP for the event on JagSync

The event will be COVID-19 friendly and include a free hot dog, beverage and chips. Concession stands will also be open for anyone wanting to purchase snacks.

It is important for students to attend this event so, “they can have the opportunity to meet other transfer students that are either around the same age, same colleges as them and a chance for transfer students to have fun and to get out of the University and go off site,“ Balderas said.

The event will provide a live DJ with an ‘80s playlist and more.

Car Vel Skateland will supply a first aid kit and accommodate anyone with a disability.

“The skating rink has allowed us to use all of their equipment that provides accommodation with students of disability,” Balderas said.
